Why are prices near me so bad?

I have been going to the scrap yard for a couple months now and every scrap yard in my area has horrible prices for steel and tin/shred.

    Steel is never above 100/ton

    tin/shred is never above 50/ton

Should I keep trying to find yards that have better prices or just deal with the crap prices?

Iron prices are about the same here in Las Vegas. The two yards with the best prices in town only do $100 and $105/ton for No 1/HMS prep iron. And that is a bump from what it was a few months back. Probably a mix of bad geographic luck with what yards can get away with.

The shredder scrap yard closest to you is Ecology Recycling in Colton CA.

    What prices do they pay?

No feeder yard can pay more for shred than a shredder yard. If the shredder yard has low prices then all feeder yards to that shredder will have low prices.

I have an ecology recycling in Paris CA, which is about 20-30 minutes away from me as I live in Lake Elsinore Ca. The one in Colton is about 40-50 minutes away. I will call them and ask what prices they pay for shred steel.
