I have been scrapping since 2006 but I almost exclusively deal with construction debris (I work in commercial roofing); lots of shred, HVAC units, etc. I know very little to nothing about electronic recycling. I've tried searching the various threads but I can't confirm exactly what I am seeking.
I was doing a clean out of a rental house and came across these. Are these gold containing and do they have any value?

Yes, they have value and are considered collectible even. Buyers on here will pay by the pound, for something like this I would probably use ebay.

doing my quick maffs. You have about $10 worth of CPU's there if bought at current rates by the pound. I say about because without actually weighting them in going on past experience.

Thank you to everyone. I thought they might be something but I had no idea if I had $1 or $20. Sounds like they have a value between $3.50 and $10.00. There are boxes of disassembled computer parts that I need to sort through. I really do not have the passion for E-cycle stuff and hope to find a buyer for the whole lot.

There are buyers here you can send to that will pay you buy the pound for your computer parts. They just need to know what you have if its worth shipping for you

From memory I think they have about 0.2-0.4 grams of Gold in each one.
The 'Triple Gold' (cap, underside & pins) K5 CPU has a tiny bit under 0.5 grams of Gold in it.
That's actual Gold, the return of Gold will be less & take into account extraction/refining, & then the usual business expences & how they would process several hundred, maybe a thousand at a time.
Nice chips, getting harder to find every day now.

E-Waste buyer here. My advice- try to sell the Cyrix CPUs on eBay. Make sure the pins don't get bent (Wrap them safely with bubble wrap), and they can fetch decent enough money for the lot. $15-20 may not sound like a lot, but it's a little chunk of easy money. Remember that Cyrix CPUs in their day were considered the cheap ones, but just like an old Yugo, they have some collectors value on how rare they are, not in how good they are

I would say the value of these chips is closer to the $15-$20 range.

last line is very true- i used to get old CPUs quite often but now it seems more ppl are coming to know that ewaste has some value & many of the guys i sell to are advertising online- ppl deal directly with them.Originally Posted by eesakiwi

I just collect anything ceramic with gold caps on them. Because someday they will be gone.. or so hard to find you'll WAY overpay for them. I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
