    Buying my first granulation system

    Hi all,

I’m in the early stages of setting up a cable chopping line in the UK and new to the game. Can anybody offer any advice when it comes to buying a shredding/granulation/sorting system? e.g. recommendations, manufacturers, value for money, good practice, what to look out for and what to be aware of etc…

    Many thanks in advance.

Look for durability and facility of maintenance (especially belt and blade changing) over anything else. Those will guide the amount of up time you can have which is the most important part. A machine that can handle great volume but has a lot of downtime doesn't have any advantage over a lower volume machine that has little to no downtime. You can ask sellers where you can find their machines in operation. It is absolutely worth a site visit to see them in action and get feedback from operators about chop quality.

Thanks JJinLV, again really good feedback from you. Thanks and notes taken. Will keep you updated with my progress if you don't mind?

Buying a cable granulator is a big decision, especially when you don't have prior first hand experience on the equipment.

Unfortunately, there is no one model that can satisfy everybody's needs, because each person's situation is different. The biggest variable is the feed you have. That will determine the type of machine (air or water separation) , throughput (how many lbs per hour)

You will also need to find out what kind of pre and post processing equipment you need. If your cables come in a huge pile, you may need a pre-shredder. If you care to get all the copper fine (dust) out of the plastic before sending it to the dump, you may need a electro-static separator.

Feel free to post any questions you may have.
