Roughly how much scrap cable does your yard generate in a week?

    Hi guys,

Question: Roughly how much scrap cable does your yard take in a week (metric tons or pounds)? And what is the most common type of cable you're getting?

I'm carrying out further research for my cable chopping line which i'll be bringing to market in the UK soon.

Although UK answers are more benificial to me, im still intersted to see whats happening in other areas of the world.

    Thanks in advance,

    Greenmetal

In Las Vegas today we'll be receiving from just one customer 44,000lbs or so of #2 35%. This is higher than usual but still a common occurrence. The median day is probably closer to 8-10Just,000 with the majority being #1 80% and MCM with the rest mostly 50%. It really depends on customer cycles.

Wow, thats a lot of cable for one day. Do you operate state wide across Nevado or do you have cable coming in from other states as well? Does the majority of your #1 consist of lomax and MCM?

We get wire from across the country. The load mentioned above was from Missouri. The next scheduled incoming ftl of 35-40% #2 is coming from California I think.

By weight the majority of the #1 we get is 75-80%, followed by MCM followed by romex. We get more cat-5 and cat-6 than romex for sure and usually more than MCM but it's normally mixed with other 50% wire so we buy it in and bale it as number 2.

I've found that contacting local competitors doesn’t offer the most productive of feedback. Although few cooperate, you’ll be surprised how sensitive other yards are with their data.

A per your initial reply, researching into global trends is very useful when aligning with my vision and ambitions.

Feeling the pain of being local competition, a few will talk but most see it as stepping on there ground.
But in good news my wheelie bins should arrive next week
