    HPS/MH Ballast

Hello everyone. Wondering if anyone knows what the internals look like on high pressure sodium and/or metal halide ballasts. Wondering if they are filled with wonderful copper.

I've been checking out a few different online government surplus auction websites that were linked from this website. Came across this http://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/all...iew?auc=581471 auction that is about 45 minutes away.

I'm going to bid on it either way, as I think I could sell them and make some money, but I'm worried that some or all may be junk. I did a search and found florescent ballast may contain a tar, but nothing on the higher power ballast. Just looking for some piece of mind.

If I win the auction I'll get some pictures up of hps/mh innards.

    Thanks.

I think that would definately sell for more than scrap price. Try CL or perhaps a gardening store/club around you.

Most of the time there is a copper coated capacitor in there. However, this is one of those items that sells for more then scrap all the time.
Here's why... Let's say I want to grow some "tomato" plants indoors... I have to go to a dealer and usually they take my name or copy my ID when I buy this sort of equipment. Now let's say you put it on the private market like a newspaper or craigslist ad... you put it up for 30-40% off the price they go for new... It will sell in a few hours easy. Some individual will show up in baggy jeans, stinking of cologne, and gladly pick it up with joy filled blood shot eyes. That person's identity is kept private and you make some bucks. You get what I'm saying? LOL
