For the most part the exteriors are cast aluminum, some boards, and lots of steel/tin inside.
Yep. I pull the cast aluminum shell off and the rest goes in the sheet iron pile.
Check ebay first, I ran across a collector of these not long ago and some are worth quite a bit of money to collectors.
Wheelwriter font wheels are worth at least $10 each on ebay. IBM selectric balls are worth selling on ebay also. Old manual typewriter keys are worth a lot on ebay for people making crafts or steampunk items.
the same model as the one i have is going for 28dollars on ebay with 2 watchers yet i just cant believe anyone would want this outdated **** technology so im just gonna wack it with ahammer and throw it in the shred
collecting san joses scrap
Pull the keys off and sell on Ebay. Crafters make jewelry with them.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
If it's an older one the housing is cast aluminum. Also electric motors, wires and I always find a spool of copper. They are a pain in the rearend to brake down, I've even throwen the whole thing in the shred pile so I wouldn't have to deal with it.
i have one of the older electric ones from the 70's, im hanging on to it waiting for the value to go up, like anything else as more of them get scrapped the value goes up, i also collect old electric calculators that print on paper rolls
