I know how to discharge a CRT but the suction cups on the 3 projectors are glued on. Is there another way to do this? And is there anything else that needs discharged?

What do you mean?
ok then. found the intro page. did all that. now can i get an answer to my question? just wanna make sure that the CRT is all i have to discharge. and for that i would usually ground a screwdriver and slide it under the suction cups like i've done on a couple tube TV's but those are glued on to the projectors and i'm not even sure if it's the same thing. i've spent way too much time trying to find this information so i signed up here. figured what better place to ask a question than at a site full of ppl that might know the answer. this is the only thing that i have to work on at the moment and i have no gas to go get anything else. until i get this done i get nothing done.
First,
Do you know the magic word?
;?)
#1 Welcome,
#2 If there is a circuit board, use the insulated handle screwdriver(and if you have a ground wire with clamp) short anything out to ground that looks like overgrown shotgun shells (can capacitors) that way you make sure it's bled off first. Hoss likes to bleed them off the hard way(using his johnson as the ground strap) ROFLMAO sorry, couldn't help it. I think back on your story and it still brings tears to my eyes.
Ahahahahhaahahhahahaaa!
;?)
lol.....poor hoss.....we will never let him forget that.....and it's his own fault...he told it so well !!!
I met Hoss this past Thursday. Pretty cool guy.
Pretty BIG guy too! Rumor has it.
heheheheheheee......
I may be fotunate that he's both a nice guy and about 1200 miles away.........Hoss if your mad enough to come east I'll promise you some beer and Ouzo and a chunk of dirt to crash on .
And campfire grilled critter.
;?)

HAHAHAHAHAAHA ah man, yall are somethin else boy i tell ya. Yeah, word of advice new guy, BLEED EVERYTHING OFF FIRST WITH A GROUND STRAP AND INSULATED SOMETHIN!
If ya dont want to do that, dont go cuttin away when yer wranglers are touchin the dang tailgate. Unless ya like sleepin with a kickstand for a week.
Yep, met IDscrapper last week on a crazy good craigslist ad. Helluva nice guy, have to say that out of the 20 or so scrappers that showed up, HE was the only prepared one. Brought a generator and sawzall. Felt like an idiot with a big ole truck and no tools LOL.
And Mechanic, all good buddy LOL. I literally laughed, HARD, when i read yer post here. Everyone in my neighborhood wont let me live down the loud cussin, and 12 year old screams i let out. And yep, im a big guy. 'round 295 pounds. Hence the name hoss, bein goin' by it since i was 12, lol.
Re-cycler, i dont know what the heck an ouzo is, but if its battered and grilled ill eat it.
Hoss,
I'm a fair judge of character and you, are **** sure A character that I think would be fun to meet.
Ouzo is the Greek national drink......(I'm Irish/kraut) but it's good stuff http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouzo
Yer willy won't hurt no more after three or four shots.
I may be a flatlander but I'm an old hand at cowboy cuisine .......I can cook good over an open fire.....Killngrill.
;?)
;?)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it comes in a bottle and I think is Russian,,,, Ymmmi dont know what the heck an ouzo is,
Anything like this,,,? http://www.route66seligmanarizona.co...dkill_Cafe.phpKillngrill.
recycler, HA! appreciate that buddy. I'm a nice fella, rough around the edges i tell ya what LOL.
I remember what ouzo is now. My grandpa use to drank that stuff back before he died. Havent tried any yet, but i plan on it now!
Ever heard of a drink called "Apple Pie"? Its a homemade drank here in the west. Good stuff...
as i said i've spent way to much time trying to figure it out. i've been all over here and google. found bits and pieces of info here and there but nothing solid to make me confident not to get myself zapped. i wanted to know how to do the whole thing to make sure i don't miss anything
ok so let me get this straight. under the suction cups and the big capacitors. just gotta push the screwdriver through the glue around the suction cups or is there another way? this is the last time i do a tv. they kinda scare me. plus i end up with the tubes that i don't know what to do with. i'll figure somethin out. been searchin for companies to take them and plastic. and so far came up with nobody. sent out some emails though. maybe i'll get a bite. first tv i did i hadn't done any research and just ripped the plug of and cut it. luckily that one had been sittin for some years.
If it's been setting awhile there is bleed off resistors on the circuit board that their only job is to bleed off the high voltage(just takes awhile). I just use a long handled screwdriver and short across the caps and any other suspicious looking components. Only takes a few seconds. Don't be deathly afraid of it, just a healthy respect for it is fine,,I personally don't trust high voltage and I don't go out and play with lightning in the rain!
I used to work at a window factory. That's about what they always said about carrying sheets of glass. Looking at it from that perspective...maybe I won't give up on TV's just yet. I think I got it down now enough to be comfortable to do it. Just got alot of other stuff to work on with my buddy so I'm actually gonna put it off for a couple days. Thanks everyone.
