    what do i keep?

    after reading over this awesome site for 3 hours last night, i feel more comfortable with what to do and look for when im scrapping. however, i am curious about television sets. i read about multiple people dismantling them, so i grabbed one today and tore it apart. my question is what is worth keeping in this thing? and also do normal scrap yards take what ever im saposed to be salvaging? any advice would be greatle appriciated!

    This will show you a few things, copper wire, copper off the yoke, the ferrite goes with steel, the circuit board is considered low grade, so we remove the transformers, and heat sinks if their aluminum and any larger wire wound chokes. Remember to use a ground and ground out everything first to make sure there is no voltage left.

    the clamps that hold the yokes on are stainless and sometimes the screws are, too.

    Ask TheHoss.....or search it. It's been discussed quite a bit.

    Read this link and if you still have questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
    This is from a supplier of all kinds of ground straps;
    Why use COPPER GROUND STRAP?
    Because of the “skin effect”, radio frequency currents tend to
    conduct along the surface of a conductor rather than through
    the middle. Because of this effect, COPPER STRAP is more
    efficient than wire at handling high frequency currents. This
    makes COPPER STRAP a logical choice in RF grounding
    applications and in applications requiring bonding and grounding
    for lightning protection. The rapidly pulsating DC currents
    encountered during a lightning strike can be compared to high
    level RF currents. COPPER STRAP handles these currents
    more effectively than the same amount of copper in wire form.
    Here would be a wrist strap if you want to go that way, other wise you could make one like I describe in the other link above.
