    First timer question on scrapping

Hello everyone, I from N.Illinois and just recently, well last sunday and monday did some scrapping with my uncle, he's been doing it a little bit not much and his truck went out so, we picked up some mowers, a few propane grills and other metals and weighed them in without taking anything apart. We collected from the residential trash turned it in as scrap metal something like .70 a pound. My question is should I find a washer or dryer, ac unit or dishwasher should I just leave it whole or take it apart, ma don't want a bunch of junk around and I don't blame her and do you have to do anything to these units or just turn them in? Are tvs or computer monitors worth anything, my uncle said leave them as the yard wont take it with the glass in the bulk metal? I looked through alot of the site, it's just confusing, seeing if I can make a few bucks, times are really tough. One thing I found out though by driving and putting the time in it it did'nt seem to profitable for two guys by the time with gas and looking. Also can scrap at any hour or can you get in trouble, I know that I'd have to be quiet. Well thanks for any replies, glad i found this website, thanks Nick.

You will always get more money tearing things apart. It comes down to whats your time worth. I saw one of them junkman trucks today back up to the pile and unload about 4 fridges a couple of treadmills and washer and dryer. All of them still with the motars, wires, and radiators still in them. They got 9 cents apound for it when if they took the time to pull the motors out they could have gotten 40 cents a pound for them not to mention $3 a lb for the copper and $1 a lb more for just clipping the power cords. I guess for them it was beter to ust dump and go backout for next load. I about had a heart attack though.

Maybe in Australia, but I've never seen an aluminum lid on a washer. The back plate where the controls are, is usually alum, as is the motor windings.

I do. Everything gets scanned with a magnet. Have magnets all over the place.

Some of this junk in engine bays looks like aluminum tubing. Sadly it's not. Some of it is though.

Working on a 4th vehicle. Did you find one yet?
