    Dallas Tx Recycling Train Spikes

Ok so without knowing the laws, I happened to pick up some Rail Road spikes today a long with a heavy iron plate (I just started scrapping as a real hobby/income). The pieces were just scattered and not part of any setup. Its Sunday..and cannot call any places right now to look and see. From what I am reading though when I started looking up average or guesstimate ideas, it seems it is illegal to have this stuff?

I am trying to look up tx law's over it but I see nothing? I was told it was tress passing which is odd as I walked tracks as a kid all the time and cops never cared. Free country? Anyway I was just hoping to know if I just wasted my time or if anyone knows of a place that takes it. Its not a lot just maybe 10 spikes and 1 plate. Not looking to break any laws.

    Thanks!

I'd say just haul them in. I doubt anybody's going to go after you, anyway. If the yard won't take them, let them tell you so. As far as the railroad goes, they've got bigger things to worry about than some guy taking a few spikes and a plate. Unless you ripped them out of an active track.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Hell no! I was just browsing a college town and noticed it had a RR track going through it but easy access to walk along it. I didn't even think about RR spikes until I saw that they were just all over the place next to the tracks. Like I said. I am not trying to break any laws and bring shame to the game.

I was just jerking your chain with the last line. Just take them in and don't worry about it.

Just miz it in with your other steel. Alot people do take them an nothing is said. Now if you bring it up with the yard...it may not be the smartest thing to do.

What I would do...simply call the rail yard close by that use the tracks and ask them if you can "clean" the tracks of "trash" they will be very happy an wont mind. Have them give you some paper work letting you there so if the cops roll up you have some kind of paper work and go about cleaning the tracks.

P.s tell them you are a scrapper and you want to pick up all the waste metal from bead frames to water heaters (there is alot of that kind of crap alone the tracks all the time) but that you will clean up everything else for free...you just want the metal. Make sure you tell them that you will stay away from the tracks..they dont want someone walking on the tracks..braking a leg an hitching a ride with the train...so use your heads and be safe.

I think I gave you the same links earlier for your answer, all you have to do is click on them and read what has already been discussed, instead of asking the same question over and over,,,,

I have never posted here before and am new so I do not think I have asked this question before, thank you all the same for the information though.

Turns out yes, in the state of Tx you CANNOT turn this scrap in. Which I think is insane considering the ramifications the rail roads face if a kid were to get the bright idea of laying some pieces on the track itself. One would think the RR would be thankful for scavengers like myself but no so much. You can do it but it needs paperwork to show. Might just dump the pieces I have back on a RR track some where though I am sure I will get accused of dumping haha.

You also as of Sept 1st cannot recycling utility polls. I found 3 from 1970 or another and they cannot be recycled unless you have paperwork from the city.

It was nice living in a free country while it lasted....

I live next to an old rail line that's been converted to a rail to trail line and found an eight foot section of track(f'er was heavy). My local yard said that it was illegal for them to accept. They know me pretty well and after explaining where it came from they took it.Now I'm sure if I showed up with a flatbed trailer with a bunch of 25 foot sections all shiny and clean they wouldn't have accepted them. .16/lb x 977lb=awesome!
