Dallas Tx Recycling Train Spikes

Ok so without knowing the laws, I happened to pick up some Rail Road spikes today a long with a heavy iron plate (I just started scrapping as a real hobby/income). The pieces were just scattered and not part of any setup. Its Sunday..and cannot call any places right now to look and see. From what I am reading though when I started looking up average or guesstimate ideas, it seems it is illegal to have this stuff?



I am trying to look up tx law's over it but I see nothing? I was told it was tress passing which is odd as I walked tracks as a kid all the time and cops never cared. Free country? Anyway I was just hoping to know if I just wasted my time or if anyone knows of a place that takes it. Its not a lot just maybe 10 spikes and 1 plate. Not looking to break any laws.

Hell no! I was just browsing a college town and noticed it had a RR track going through it but easy access to walk along it. I didn't even think about RR spikes until I saw that they were just all over the place next to the tracks. Like I said. I am not trying to break any laws and bring shame to the game.

I have never posted here before and am new so I do not think I have asked this question before, thank you all the same for the information though.

Turns out yes, in the state of Tx you CANNOT turn this scrap in. Which I think is insane considering the ramifications the rail roads face if a kid were to get the bright idea of laying some pieces on the track itself. One would think the RR would be thankful for scavengers like myself but no so much. You can do it but it needs paperwork to show. Might just dump the pieces I have back on a RR track some where though I am sure I will get accused of dumping haha.

You also as of Sept 1st cannot recycling utility polls. I found 3 from 1970 or another and they cannot be recycled unless you have paperwork from the city.

It was nice living in a free country while it lasted....

Was in the same predicament. I just threw it in the middle of my steel pile (so when flipped it wouldnt be on top) just told myself i wouldnt do it again.
