Cast aluminum

I have some out door lights that I think is aluminum. They are not magnetic. How can I tell for sure what it is ? Thanks

spark test it with a grinder, AL does not spark and is a dull silver in color on the inside. Otherwise, if it sparks it is stainless steel which is a bright silver color on the inside. There are several threads which discuss identifying metals. i suggest you look over them.

I scrapped some a few months ago. $ of them brought me $20 seperated into cast aluminum and transformers sold as motors. I should have stripped the copper on those, but it was such a quick $20 and we were in a hurry.

Some are zinc. Could be called Die cast. But pays more than plastic! I think you have cast alum though! .60 a pound by me

Could be coated brass, what kind of lights exactly?

Thanks for the replies. I am totally new at this. I busted one of the frames of the lights and they are cast metal of some sort. Will a spark test work on this? Thanks a lot for the replies.

a spark test will work. as long as you have a tool which can throw sparks, give it a shot

I gave it a spark test and it did not spark, HYowever, I did find a manufacturers name, called them and they confirmed that it waqs cast aluminum.
