Question on going to scrap yard?

Ok I was supposed to go today but ran out of time. I have a washer, dryer, Grill, File cabinet and 2 standing lamps inside my SUV. I'm going tomorrow. First Time I'm actually going to a yard. My question is when I drive in there. Do I go to office first, drive on scale, or do I need to separate these things? I don't want to look like I don't know what I'm doing lol. Thanks for any tips

if you are serious, you need to put your trip to the yard off until you have some time to read through the forum a bit and learn how to make some money from those items. If you can't wait, at least clip your electrical chords and sell them separately. And go to the office and tell them it's your first time.

Sorry forgot to mention I did break down the washer and dyer. I cut all the cords off. Didn't bring any wire bc I'm trying to save until I have a lot.

Yes I got the motors and all the wires any thing else need to be done with them. As far as the grill, It's only a charcoal grill. I took the lid off and took the legs off. I cut the plastic wheels off, threw wheels in garbage. That's all I did with the grill. Do I keep everything together or when I get to the scrap yard do I separate them?

Keep everything together, it will all be counted as tin.

you did good...sorry I underestimated you in first post. Hope it went well. The first trip is always exciting. I advised going to office 'cause they're all so different.

Good job rcv....thanks for letting us know. Are you going to sell your motors whole or tear them down ? Idaho is right about the plastic wheels though....your shred doesn't have to be "clean". I did that when I started, too.....it'll be easier when you get a truck and/or trailer so you can just "toss it on" instead of having to "pack it in". Good luck.

Thanks Dumpster Dee. I'm not sure about the motors yet. I would like to tear them down (extra money) but I don't have a sawsall. I have 3 motors (washer, dryer, vacuum). It would be nice to have a pickup truck or a trailer, it sucks packing it in my SUV lol. Like you said it's easier to toss it on. I will only be doing this until April bc I'm going to Navy boot camp. But I will try to make as much money as I can before I leave. I thought all plastic had to be off bc I thought the guys at the scrap yard watch you, But I guess I will learn. Thanks again. Good Luck to you too!!

you sound like an honest man rcv....but not to worry about the plastic...think about it...they take complete vacuum cleaners !!! The yard makes money off that plastic, dude. We weren't trying to tell you to "sneak" it in...lol. btw...if you have a hacksaw and some time you can break down a motor just for fun.

as long as you give the scrap yard MORE of what they buy, then they won't care to much.

If I had to pull plastic I'd just about spend days prepping cars to haul in. That would suck. Then again so does the 10 day turn around to get a title so I can haul it in.
