OK.I've read this whole thread and I'm not trying stir up old arguments but I just got 46lbs of pewter plate ware and was hoping someone could tell me the current rate. I've looked on google and since 2011 I've seen prices from 3.00 to 19.00 dollars.so here I am asking the experts.what is the CURRENT price and best place local to Indianapolis Indiana to sell it...thanks in advance

tin is at $9.21 pound right now and pewter is 95% tin. Id try ebay over scrapping.

just a spot price, i have no idea what the rate on pewter is being paid right now, id hold on to it for awhile, looking for inflation to push prices up should start going into effect soon once this deflation bubble bursts
I hate to burst your bubble, but I doubt you have 46 pounds of pewter plateware... research it again. What does the mark on the bottom say?
*I have to edit this... you may have 46 lbs of pewter plateware.... but not the "correct" pewter plateware. There are different levels, and the "pewter" plate ware you have is probably not the true stuff.*

50lbs in box ...box weighed 4 lbs = 46lbs....
Did my research from what I see in hand and what I read and seen on the net these are pewter butter plates and other pewter dishes
Other markings on all the dishes are as follows
Nsfi 2-1996 83xf
And a triangle with "classified" "eph" a circle with U L in it

Does mine have lead in it??? Highly doubtful since is is truly for eating off of and these were made in 1996 the 2 main ingredients in pewter is tin = 85 to 99% copper usually being around 1% some other forms of pewter did contain other metals in them but all pewter is made primarily of tin....I've done my research and even Bon chefs website says these are pewter. Going to a restaurant supply outlet tomorrow but as I said I'm here to talk to the experts so please enlighten me on anything I've not found already... thanks in advance

The fact that you asked "does mine have lead in it" leads me to believe you DID NOT do all the research.
This is really hard to explain. But I'm looking it up to explain it all correctly.
It's kind of like a Hershey bar old style, and that new Hershey bar with air. Once you see the two together, you'll always be able to tell them apart.
It would be interesting to see if you do get a hit off this at the scrap yard. But I think you might be better off selling them on ebay.

Hopefully this will work for you guys. You might have to back up the link trail to get more descriptions... but this explains it best, and clear enough for you guys. A lot of people over the years have gotten screwed by this pewter, and bought into it, thinking it was old. If you want proof what you have isn't pewter... take a torch to it. I think we can agree that any form of "true" pewter will melt the instant a torch touches it. Anything else won't. I commonly refer to all this stuff as Pewterx, a play off the Pewterax.

I guess you didnt read my post the way it was meant...after I said does it jave lead in it I also said highly doubtful since it was a used for food and it was made in 1996.and at that time it wasnt permitted to have lead in a plate
You're getting defensive, and that's ok. That's how people really find things out, and others learn.
If you would have read all about pewter and lead, you would have read that pewter hasn't had lead in it for Food Products since like 1800 something... something about tomatoes and pewter and people going nuts.
The second part, is the NSF... That's the national safe food council or something along that lines.
I sure do enjoy talking about lead. I've been working on my new invention... lead chewing gum. Never loses flavor, and never goes "flat". Very tasty.

Not getting definsive ut isnt that what I said?in 1996 they werent allowed to have lead in them...and after even more research other sites stating these were pewter.i finaly got ahold of the company bon chef.[the makers of the items in question] and guess what ... cast aluminum.lol good luck getting the gum past the fda.dont offer it to our government though being a harmful product and all they would most likely give it to our military boys and girls on thier rations.
And it had to do with the acid in the tomatoes causeing the plate to bubble
