    General Scrapping Question

Im new to the forum and relatively new to scrapping metal. I have a question for all of you guys and gals who have been at this a while. First an overview of my situation. During my scrapping ventures I would say that %95 or so of the metal I collect is ferrous steel or tin. Car body parts, chain link fence parts, bed frames, etc. I haven't really hit the jackpot with much copper, aluminum, or any other non ferrous metals. I will find the very rare appliance and get small amounts of copper and/or aluminum there. But thats not often. Lots of scrappers in my area. My question - Is this a normal thing, do most metal scrappers rely on 10 cent per pound mixed tin and steel as the majority of there scrapping income? If this is not the case what am I doing wrong? Where can I go to find more appliances and non ferrous metals? Any help you guys have for me would be much appreciated....thanks in advance.

Many do rely on just ferrous. As for the rest of your questions, just keep reading and you will find lots of answers.

Completely normal. It's nice to get the "good stuff" but, just like anything else, you've got to take the "bad" with the "good". Patience - it'll come. If I didn't have my pile of Light Iron, I wouldn't have gotten all the copper, aluminum, batteries and #1 Iron that I have.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

yeah its pretty normal, like you stated there are lots of scrappers out there so things can be a little competitive at times.

for me though steel and tin are a good base because volume amounts are easier to find, and if your careful, even on the bad weeks iron will keep a plate of food on the table a fuel in my truck so i can go hunt more scrap. oh and a quick prayer when i leave out never seems to hurt either.

think of metal like a sand witch.

    You are the bread.

In the middle the heart of the sand witch is the meat AKA "Ferris Metal"

Now on this sand witch you like mayo, mustard and lettuce. AKA "Copper alum and brass"

While you dont have much on the sand witch they still make it taste that much better.
