    Talking November The 5th

This thread is mainly towards the UK side of this forum for November the 5th (bonfire night).

I just wondered has anyone here took stuff away from bonfires like appliances and other metal items?

The metal isn't really meant to be on the bonfire anyway and my local one refuses it but the council pick it up the next morning so this year I plan to go in and get all the ferrous metals and leave them with the steel cases

    Anyone else or just me?

I never really thought about it. I just assumed they used wood, I had no idea they shoved appliances on the bonfires??

May just be locally but yes for the past years before they have been, the fire is so intense the metal burns though! Just may go over there while all the stuff is dumped around the ready to be built and extract some motors and brass door handles always come up

I had to go searching to figure out what the heck you guys were talking about.

I'm not enviro-nazi enough to object to some wood smoke, but including appliances just seems like a bad idea...

Yeah I should of included for the yanks I suppose

Also, now I think the metal items are not added to the fire as last year they started to control the fires and bring in community teams to assist. So now there is a fence around the area and they put all the metal items to one side for the council to collect so I am pretty sure they would have no problem in me "recycling" some of it

The bonfires made for public shows by councils don't originally have any appliances on, i'll bet in the past it was people fly tipping onto a place they thought they could get away with it. Interesting about the brass door handles though. How much in the past have you picked up this way? Some of the big shows like on the nottingham goose fair ground can sometimes be massive bonfires. Lots of door handles there!

I haven't picked up any yet because I just thought about doing this, this year but I have found them before by asking residents if I can knock them off doors in their gardens
