Now by law all sellers of TV's and digital set top boxes have to take your details on purchase -this I imagine is used to keep a better track on who has TV's and isn't paying their dues. On the flip side, now that television has gone full digital across the country, it's much easier to say you only watch dvd's or play on consoles if you have an older TV and digibox.
Thanks for clearing that up. When I lived in London during the 70's, we were told that people drove around in a van with equipment that could tell if you were watching the telly or not. If they caught you without a license (I thought it was for the tv itself, like for a car) you could get in trouble. I think the BBC were on strike for a least some of that time, because I don't remember watching a lot of tv. This was just prior to Margaret Thatcher and it seemed that everyone was on strike in London at one time or the other.
