Last year I cleaned out a storage unit (tenant didn't pay) amongst all the crap was a large carton of smal statues and trinkets, the stuff you'd put on a mantle.
So I empty the box and there is a 12" long Boars tusk in there with a heap of native carvings on it (polanesian/pacific islander style) really nice too, had 'Norton 1791' engraved at its base.
PAYDAY I thought, but what was it worth? Anyway was looking online for info and there was a pic of a Tusk just like mine in reference to a James Nathaniel albrert Norton, a ships maintanance man who was almost stranded in he cook islands trying to make repairs...
My wife says give it to the museum, it belongs there, she said. So I call them up.
(this is the bit that knowone believes..)
Turns out the curator has a neighbour who always goes on about her great great grandfathers stolen Boar Tusk. Long story short I meet this lady, she shows me fairly current pics of the tusk and have it all detailed in an insurance policy. there is even a family christmas picture she dragged out, there is the tusk plain as day sitting in the middle of the hall table.
Anyway, the tusk is now back with the family it belongs to.
