I'm more looking to just bring them in and get my gas out of them. I don't usually mess with pulling the copper out or anything. When I bring it in does it have to be stripped of all wires / hoses? How much can I expect to get out of a small dryer/washer/stove? How much more if I turned in the copper separately? I know prices are completely dependent on location, just looking for an estimate. Thanks for your help in advanced.

No you don't have to remove wires and such, at least where I go you could just load it up and dump it off. What ever they pay they pay,(per pound that is).
You can guess the weight when you move it, if not you will know about how much they weigh in short time dealing with them much.
I do feel it is a shame that you don't try to separate the metals at least a little bit.

I have learned that the cords themselves can sell sometimes more than scrap value on CL and ebay alone!
I don't see why you wouldn't want to take out at least the compressors but that is your choice.
I know with my yard, they will take everything 100% whole.

I disagree with that. My yard has told me several times on things to do to maximize my profit. I will admit, that they say that, so it is less work for them. They process as much as possible before loading it up to head to DC, but none the less.Originally Posted by Dumpster-Dee
Also, not every yard does take appliances whole. There has been numerous discussions on here about people having to take the refrigerant out of refrigerators, because the yards won't take them with refrigerant in them. My yard will.

Tried to get the motors out, they're bolted in and it's not worth my time honestly. I'm expecting on getting $20-$25 for all three. I've never scrapped electronic anything before, I've snipped all the wires off and unscrewed the power cable. All that's left is the motor but after I have the motor am I just breaking that down for the copper?

Most of those motors are aluminum wound anyway. If you are just getting rid of a few appliances as a one time deal then just load 'em up and be done, don't sweat the small stuff.
But if you plan on doing it to make money on a reg. basis then you will want to read up about each appliance and max your buck!
The average washer'/dryer'/stove I can break down in 10 mins or less. Angle grinder with disc can cut the crappy motor brackets in 30 secs and the motor is out. Most of the cases they are alu, but still 25c lb for the motor vesus 12c lb for shred is better. The wire is 1.50 lb at current prices. The switches have brass contacts with silver buttons. 30 secs to smash with hammer. Usually I dont mess with the silver, so the contacts usually go in the brass bucket. Now ya done. All you need is a cordless impact screw gun with 11'/32'/ 9/'32 and 1'/4 sockets. Some philips bits and ya golden. Not rocket science and quite easy to do especially if ya familiar with working on cars, engines, etc.
The only time I dont break down appliances is in the case when my boiler man calls me and he needs 3 appliances and a boiler out asap. So the appliances get loaded and unloaded at the yard, then I head back for the boiler due to space and time constraints. Everything else is gutted.....

I know he mean't just washers, dryers, and stoves, and I mean't to reference the electric motors in the washers and dryers. However, I did get on the subject of refrigerator compressors, but that was mainly after dee's statement.

Alright, that makes sense and is reasonable. Seems like, unless I plan on scrapping similar items as one of my primary things; then it would be worth breaking them down. However, considering this is a one time thing it's better not to waste my time since I won't be acquiring a mass of copper / etc.
Nope it wont be a one time thing for him.Once he gets the 75 shred price for all 3 appliances, the bug will bite him. And he will be wondering wtf man. Why am I working at mcd'/s for 56 for a 8 hour shift, when I can grab 3 appliances, drive, 10 mins, and make 75 cash...lol
Also keeping the motors and wiring and such, is like a savings account. At the end of week or month, run it in. Nice extra couple hundrend if ya doing it right.....
