    Stator in shred or iron?

Just joined the forum but have been in the shadows for a while now. I normally only have a few stators after I pull the copper out of them so just put them in my shred pile. I just hooked up with an HVAC guy that is selling me condensers in the 3 to 5 ton range. Have about 40 stators right now stripped and was wondering if I can put them with my iron. I can ask the yard I use but wanted to see what you guys do with yours. I know they are laminated thin sheet but as a whole they form a pretty good chunk of steel.

The yards I deal with only buy them as tin, but they do give me a dumpster bin to put them in.

I take a lot of motors to my yard. When I first started taking them in I called and asked what an electric motor is considered once I pull all copper and aluminum out. Short Iron was the answer I got and they have never wavered. I remind them of this conversation if they get an odd look on their face when they see what I have.

SHP, will they come get them and still give you short iron prices?

I don't mind getting a little less knowing that they come out every month to get it and have money waiting for me when I go in. I'm getting too old to handle that stuff very many times.

If you aren't getting prepared heavy melt for your stripped stators you are getting bent over with no vaseline. Lets say you strip a good size motor down and the shaft is say two inches or more. Do you really think a shredder is going to be able to turn that into fragmented material? Yeah right something that size would potentially break a hammer on the rotor of the shredder. I would murder the yard manager if they told me to put it in the shredd pile. Just kidding about the murder part but you get my point. I have never sold a stripped motor as shredd NEVER. Always went into the prepped hms.
