You got a lot of reading to do, it is scrap.....It is worth what it weighs X ~$.10/lb until you learn more.

Are you looking to get into scrapping or getting rid of it as a one time deal? If you want to fiddle with it there's copper inside worth $3ish a lb versus entire unit scrapped out at steel/tin price of 10 cents +/- a lb.

I tore one down after it was determined to be too much of a pansy for crushing soda cans.

Yes, john1988. The scrap yards will take it as is. Around .10/lb. You are properly licensed and insured to scrap tho, right?

    Cut that cord off.

The cord is copper most definitely. Cut it off and strip it. There is a copper motor inside that runs the compactor. Break that out and remove the copper and put it with the stripped wire. Then if there is nothing else, bring in the tin compactor shell and scrap that. Then bring in your copper to wherever your yard asks you to bring it and scrap it separately. Honestly though, it's unlikely you will get enough out of it to be worth your time.
