    The big black xformer was for the hi voltage for the tubes to run and the smaller one on the left pic.#2 was for the audio to drive the speakers. They are right on those old tuners a restorer might need one of those.
    You're right Mechanic. Guess I brought that on myself. The op was referring to that transformer, and I was making a general warning about some of that old stuff, which I still stand by. Was just trying help with the general education on some of that really old stuff. Some times a couple bucks worth of copper just isn't worth the risk.

    Just a quick history for the college student. The "light bulbs" you are looking at are vaccum tubes. And they are what came before transistors which were before ic chips. This is the stuff that started electronics, its history. Thats why some have suggested you take the time to discover what you have. For some its like restoring an old car.

    As far a dangerous substances none really. Of course normal saftey concers apply. I see you use gloves, great, also avoid inhaleing dust etc. Mike.
