melted down scrap brass

Hi to all, I have heard that melting down scrap can be a problem when it comes to cashing it in.I have been melting down leaded brass and aluminum bronze into ingots just for the fun of it and to save space.Could these ingots bring less per pound than the original material?

Hi, Thanks, Yeah the cost of melting it is alot but I did it mostly just for the fun of doing it and to have some ingots for sandcasting as well as gaining some space.Now that I have plenty I dont want to keep melting it down if its going to drop the value.A guy from another form ran samples for me through some kinda fo spectrograph thingy at a mill where he worked and said both alloys are 88% copper +/- 1%.Are scrap yards willing to preform some kind of assay.At 88% and no zinc they wouldnt have to worry about melted pennies thats for sure.
