I have some fiber optic cable. its like quarter inch cable with plastic around it but there is also an inch hollow plastc tube attached. Has anyone ever scrapped this type of material? Will they take it as is or would i have to discard the inch hollow tube? I really don't want to strip because I have 1500 ft. and its pretty tough to get off. Thanks!

I may be stupid here but fiber optic cable dont have any metal in it. Maybe a plastic buyer would buy it?

Tell ya what. You just go right ahead and strip it before you bring it to your yard. It'll be a very good learning experience for ya.

That is glass. the only value that it has is as usable fiber. You will need a signal generator and a full spectrum sweep of the spool in question with a printout of it in order to sell it. You may be able to find a contractor that has the equipment to test it himself that would be willing to buy it. If it is not on the spool then I would say it is probably garbage.

I was skeptical at the thought at first, but I googled it and found that it is indeed recycled. No idea of what the value is. The people at the following link may be a place to start if you have a good amount of it.

As an aside, some fiber optic cable has a steel strand for strength (like some copper phone cable). So, I suppose it would have some shred value as well.

The fiber optic cable does have scrap value in 2014. If you have large quantities; PM me if it needs a home.

You're making confusing posts about the value of fiber optics. First you have buyers. Then saying it has no value. Then it does have value. Now it has scrap value. And you CAN"T receive or send PMs until a certain number of posts.

Sorry for the confusion. If you have large quantities of cable- buyers are interested. Small amounts don't carry the same interest.

Fiber optic cable has other uses too ... For instance if you have conduit going somewhere and no pull string, slide that fiber in the conduit and you don't have to worry about it kinking up somewhere...
Also can be used to bore under sidewalks if you need to run a cable without conduit...
Or fishing a cable down the side of a wall in your home, made easy...
Some have a thin ground on it, not really worth the effort to remove (kind of like taking the steel bands out of tires...)
