    Payphones???

Has anyone ever broken down a payphone? I may have a chance to bid on 7 payphones and various parts. Now, from research I know parts of the phone is stainless, some parts I think steel. Then you have some copper and such depending on the make and model.

    So my two questions are:
    1) Anyone ever break one down?
    2) Best guess on weight / value?

Will be checking ebay on various parts / phones for re-sale. Scrap value is just the lowest $$ amount I can make off the phones.

    Thanks

Depending on condition I'd look into resale first. Or possibly rewiring them for home/regular use. I remember watching one of those picker shows or antique shows where someone had rewired a couple for home use and it increased the value. Sure, not many people have landlines anymore, or want a big stupid box hanging on their walls, but the ones that do are willing to pay more, just because nobody else has it

yep, I agree, don't scrap them... A quick look on Ebay shows them going for $50 - $200 each. Good luck.

I would buy a booth faster than you could say "Hello?". I would then use it as decoration outside my garage with a mannequin inside stripping off it's clothes and turning into Superman! I would love it!

Lol hypoman - I've I win the unit I'll shoot you a picture and price

wdaddy - I plan to try and ebay them first if win. Looking at closed auctions the price ranges from 50 - 100 bucks as units that have sold.

It is all going to depend on who does their homework first and wants to deal with the items. I've won a few units that were lots of work but good re-sale / scrap value for cheap. Those days are rare now, but still hoping. If the unit doesn't get pulled anyways.
