Here is a copy/paste from one of my local yards:
Aluminum Breakage:Aluminum recyclables with greater than 8% of foreign attachments but less than 40%. Aluminum recoveries of a minimum of 50% - 60% must be achievable. Materials with lower recovery rates will be graded as sheet iron
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....
Breakage is anything with aluminum with iron attachments or other foreign attachments such as plastic, rubber, etc. Should fetch about 20 cents a lb or slightly less.

Why would dishwasher motors be sold for breakage, I sell mine as electric motors at .36 cents and cast alu. with steel is irony alu. @.25 cents

Small ones out of printers and such I do not also dishwasher and washer/ dryer with alu. windings I do not. All other motors with copper windings get broke down. I was just wondering why an electric motor would be sold as breakage, thats all.

They are classified as Aluminum Breakage at one of the yards I go to if taken in whole. I don't much like aluminum because of how light it is and how much you need to have to get any kind of real weight, so I don't spend too much time on those aluminum winding motors.

Breakage is more than 1/3 dirt. For example I brought in 4 lawn chairs with webbing, rivets, plastic arms. I got breakage price of 16c lb. I tore down 4 similar chairs. I seperated the clean and dirty parts I removed webbing and plastic arms. I got what us considerd dirty sheet, which is considerd having minor attatchments such as rivers small amounts of foreign materials. Dirty sheet is 40c a lb clean is 50c a lb. Personally I don't spend too much time especially on aluminum because of the weight. Basically get it cleaned up but not perfect. The time spent making it totally clean will usully earn you a slave wage per hr. Unless of course you have alligator shears and other machinery to process it clean. Think about how much aluminum it takes to make 20 lbs. Now deduct the dirt weight. 1 lb for dirt. 19 lbs at 50c a lb. = $9.50 now 20 lbs at 40c a lb= $8... 9.50-8= 1.50 difference. How long does it take to fully clean 20 lbs? 20 lbs of breakage yields approx 14 lbs of clean alum. Breakage at 16c lbs 3.20$. 14lb clean alum~ 7$ dirty~5.60$. (Clean it, but don't cleeeean it) some PCs will be clean some with have dirt. Don't get anal over every little pc.

so what is it if you totally clean a lawn chair or a swiffer mop? aluminium really messes me up, then extrude.... oh man... makes my head hurt

Extrusion would be items that are used in structure purposes.a lot of time you will find they are hollow posts. Like good window frames. Some office partition frames. Some times extusions are used as finish pieces. I had a large iron cart from a hospital. The sides had curved extrusion parts to make it look nice. Its thicker than your regular alum not easly bendable like sheet aluminum.
