Insulated copper prices all over these days

I've been calling a few yards to check prices. I have the insulated copper that is from inside BX cable. It's all 12-14 Ga. When I explain what it is they tell me it's worth 50-75 cents a pound. The best price I got today was .15 for BX. Steel I believe is at .12c a pound. When I check some online places they list Insulated wire at 2.15 and Thhn at 1.75. Is there something i'm missing. I really don't want to strip it to BB. I figured if I got around 2.00 +/- for insulated then it's worth not stripping it for the 3.00 BB prices. But at .75 it maybe worth it.

Bx is completely different then romex and thhn. If you rewove the wire from the aluminum casing you can sell it as insulated wire.

Edit: just read you already removed it. Sell it as insulated, the source won't matter.

Have you checked with one of members who buys wire? There is one in Pa. High Voltage Processing. If you have enough it might be worth the trip. I know he also picks up. Mike.

The part I don't get is I see some people listing Romex for $1.75 and Thhn for $2.00 but whenever I call the scrap yards they just tell me it's insulated and .75-1.00 a pound. I only have a could hundred lbs but I want to maximize my $$$. I was thinking of buying a wire stripper but that would set me back $100.

It would pay for itself in the first 100 pounds of romex.

my 2 cents. The 1.75 for romex is the yards selling price of larger quantities to processors, brokers or larger yards based of off the spot price for the day. The scrap yard sets the price and class they will buy. They could offer 1 cent a lbs. There is no law saying you have to accept. Some yards buy insulated or BB others might have 6 classes of wire based of copper %. Want to sell romex for more than $1.75 a lbs open a yard. Buyers will stop by or call and offer more than street price(what the yards offered you to in the first place
