cut off wheel info

Hi to all, I am looking for advice on cut off wheels for 4 1/2'' grinder. I know the thin ones would work best but is it worth it to pay for the name brand wheels? Some of them are also rated for non-ferrous and I wonder if it really makes a difference?

i haven't used any on mine yet but have seen several recommend makita. I've been using a 10" metal blade on an old miter saw

I use "Walter" brand. I find the 4 1/2" are easy to break, but they sure cut good. I use the 7" ones for heavy cutting, they seem to put up with a bit more flex.

I use cheap cut off blades from HF. They are thin, if I'm cutting copper or brass I have less waste. I don't cut anything to thick or they will brake apart and that can be dangerous. I cut everything but heavy metal.

5pack of dewalt at lowes are only $8 for the money and how they last is the best value ive found so far

Been using Dewalts wheels on a skil tool.their holding up well.

Any of the metabo brand wheels that say slicer on them work great, i work for about 10 different contractors boilermaking, we have a couple that buy the metabo brand and from my experience they are the best cutting and have the best life, the dewalts i can go thru one of those in less than 5 min on 1/4" plate so you get what you pay for.

These are less than $1.30 each when bought in bulk. So its actually cheaper to buy made in USA metabo cut off wheels than the dewalts which are made in germany.
