Recognize that the number of cans that make up a pound of aluminum has changed, and may change in the future. The number of aluminum cans that make up a pound has changed quite a bit over the years. In 1984 one pound of aluminum cans equaled 22 cans. In 2008 to make one pound of aluminum cans took 32 cans according to the Natural Resource Recovery Association

And there's a difference in the thicknesses of different cans by brand, some take over 30 to make a pound.

So now that you know the number of cans to a pound 32-34 or so, are you going to just turn in a pound? I weigh my bags before I go so I know the number. If you are in a deposit state you normaly will not turn them in by the pound.

Man, this could be confusing. Just checked a few beer cans and found four different sizes so far. I'm guessing that if I check pop cans it will be similar? How many per pound? Depends on the size of your cans. lol lb

The number of cans to make up a pound may vary if u pull the tabs off... in some places you can scrap the tabs as aluminum clippings and get more money for your can scrap... I never knew this until a guy at work told me and he had previously worked at a scrap yard for like 15 yrs.
