A Tare question

How do your yards deduct tare? Sometimes mine weighs the empty container sometimes not. Sometimes takes off 2 lb for 5 gal bucket 3 lbs for 6 gal bucket. If you put stuff in a cardboard box they take off 2 lbs for copy paper sized box. I know I can just pour out all items but as it is easier for me and the people at the yard I leave the small items in the buckets or boxes unless it is copper. I had a rubbermade plastic storage thing and they deducted 4 lbs. without weighing it. When I went home it weighed 5 on my scale. I am going to mark the weights of the buckets / storage containers on them so I can see if they are taking the tare in there favor or mine!

I wonder if they would mark them for you when they have them on the scale. Then you both know what the deal is. If you use more than one yard they could each initial the weight or something.

when i have smaller stuff if possible i use plastic bags, they don't seem to deduct on those. with buckets they weigh each one

Bear - one time I took a birdseed bag full of copper in and they deducted 2 for the bag. I was like ??????????.

my yard has the bin weights on the side and they deduct it off after its on the scale full of my scrap

"1" guy at my yard weighed and marked all my containers/buckets for me after I got irate when 2 of the guys were pretending they don't speak English and trying to get over. I point to the # and tell them in Spanish "every time" and of course they still try and sneak in an extra lb. every now and then.

U got paid for 1# of bucket, good deal. Better to weigh buckets on bathroom scale and right in on the container. Hard to trust anyone anymore...

It's also possible your average bathroom scale is not accurate.

My yard does not even deduct weight for cardboard boxes unless it's a rather large box. I have a large amount of Flat Rate Priority Mail boxes that my neighbor threw out by the caseload. They are small but work great for smaller nonferrous scrap. Buckets they just dump out on the scale and then shovel the scrap into their bins after it is weighed.

i started with buckets but sometimes they dont like giving them back haha.. so i use boxes now.. no tare up or down.. but my yard rounds up or down the the nearest dollar.. they dont deal in change

A good bucket scale for the money. Just got mine on Tuesday and it's ALOT more accurate than my analog.

Looks good weighs up to 88 lbs! I am using a fishing scale up to 50 lbs
