Those buckets & boxes in the posts are thinsg of beauty, almost too perrrtttyy to scrap (almost).
The ceiling fans, what if the copper is too brittle to unwind? I have some that the only way to remove the copper is to cut it and pull short pieces off, and even then it's very brittle. Guessing there was some kind of electrical short or just the copper's really old. Is it worth it to cut the copper off under these circumstances??

    TIA

I wouldn't have the patience to unwind a whole ceiling fan!!

I cut each loop in the outer ring with tin ships, then use my channellocks to pull the goods out, then repeat with the inner ring.

I'd bet someone has an easier method. Seems a cutoff wheel would prevent palm blisters, for sure.

Cut one end of loop with angle grinder with cut off wheel . Then put fan In vice and pull it out with a big screwdriver

Hmmm, Biggest copper load was years ago around .40-.50 a pound i got around $300 and change so 600+ pounds. I cant get a load like that now with the prices where they're at. Well that and the amount of people scrapping now has increased exponentially.

I am hoarding. Biggest haul was about 150lbs. when it was $3.25/lb. bare bright. More recently about 80lbs. #1 at $3.10/lb and some #2. I got a pool heater and that sucker had 30lbs. They graded those finned copper pipe at #2, is that the same for the rest of you? I've got another one to surgically operate on so I want to check that I'm not being taken for a ride.

Yesterday I pulled 70lbs of bright copper tubing out of the trash from a Liebert AC system they are replacing at my work. (Data Center for a hospital) I watched as the construction crew carried all the pipes out to the dumpster?? I didn't ask them why they were throwing it away ..(conflict of interest for them maybe?) So, after I asked my boss if it was fair game.. I, in broad daylight while my cohorts are laughing at me, jumped into the can and filled up my trunk. Having no more room in my trunk, I left maybe two 1-2" thick 10yard pipes. This morning I went back to check the dumpster and it's empty/clean. First time for me getting copper pipes!!

for a part time job, u seem to be doing quite well
makes me wonder what u could do if u went into scrapping full time?

    just remember:
when u eventually get paid- dont spend it all in one place!
