    Maine State Surplus auction 8/30

Went to the preview today as I was interested in the advertised "Pallets of Bargain PCs and Laptops without Operating Systems in lots of 5 and 10". I was imagining pallets in lots of 5 and 10 (pallets).

Total waste of time. There were no pallets. The computers were grouped by one group of 5 computers and one group of ten computers on a cart. Total 15 computers. This will be a "silent" auction. There is a box on the cart for you to put a slip of paper in with your name, etc, which group and your bid on that group. The minimum bid for the group of five is $100 and the group of 10 is $200. In other words, $20 a computer without a Hard Drive. Other electronic equipment was equally as high or higher. The bid method was explained as avoiding hiring an auctioneer.

On the bright side, I stopped at a car dealership on the way home. A guy who works there had bought some cast iron pans from me a couple years ago and asked me to let him know if I got any more. I'd gotten four pans and three lids a couple months ago and been carrying them around in the back of the pickup. Asked for $10 and he didn't even quibble. So, I got back the $10 I'd spent on breakfast, anyway.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
