I've been heating these heat sinks with a torch to remove the copper tubes. I've done maybe 10 successfully. Today, I had one explode. Sealed tube. No warning. Ears are ringing, and a little solder on my face. Had tinted safety glasses on....Thank God. They will sell as is from now on.

are you talking about the ones with the copper plug in the middle? I just use a smaller straight edge screwdriver and tap it alongside it and pry up gently to remove. The ones with the square copper plate in the bottom just slides out if you tap it with a hammer and chisel in a vise. No surprises that way.

I use a Coleman stove and cast iron skillet. After about two minutes of cooking I use a pair of Channel locks. Grab a hold of the copper and tap against the side of the cast iron skillet. And while it's cooking. I can be tearing more computers apart.
Yes cut the copper tubes first before heating and you won't have that problem anymore. Mike.

Yikes, good to know. I haven't been as efficient as I should be with these. I usually just put all the AL in their own bin.
