May sound trite but for newbies watch out standing in any sort of skip or dumpster
with soft soled footwear.
Have twice been up casualty for tet jabs after rust nail jabbed foot!
Also take great care pulling out anything stretchy-thecatapault effect to face.

Always wear boots. Just like a trades job. You dont show up to do mason work with patio boots aka flip flops

I don't do a lot of dumpster diving anymore but I just can't wear those heavy boots anymore....guess I'm getting old have traded in all my other shoes for a set of New Balance

I dived into one dumpster i had got some good stuff from. And found a few 1/2 gallon plastic containers with liquid in them.
I took the cap off a few to sniff whats inside it & none were proper solvents so i left them there.
The next day i was back inside it, but during daylight and i pick up the container to read its label, and it reads...

even if u ARE wearing boots, even with steel shank protector, be carefull,i once had a cheap pair of boots and wore them out and the steel shank "protector" came out !! it was 3/4 inch wide and 3 inches long !! not what i was expecting it to be..dont know if high grade boots are any better or not..
