Best places and unexpected and unlikely places.

Hi, I work in the construction industry so i know there is always always scrap alum and copper on every site. However the site im on has had a couple bad experiences already plumbers had someone break into the seatcan and cut up most of the big copper plubing pipes and a work got could cutting up rebar ,both were caught and they don't want scrappers there anymore. I was wondering tho is what kind of things are usualy good scrap that people just throw away or sell for cheap on a daily basis?

It's not a lot of money but some restaurant and bakery chains - particularly bakery chains- throw out a lot of disposable aluminum baking pans everyday.

you could look into contacting all types of manufacturing plants/facilities. a lot of these companies go through quite a bit of wooden pallets. I make a decent income just collecting pallets and re selling them. Right now 40" x 48" 4ways are going for $2.50 each. so if you only found 50 pallets per day you could possibly make $150 per day. Just a thought.

Who do you sell the pallets to if you don't mind me asking?

Would they let you dig aluminum cans out of the trash? Think about after the lunch truck leaves how many people are throwing away that .70/lb.

Lucky, everyone here is having trouble giving them away...
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Lots of companies buy pallets. Our company buys about a hundred or two hundred every month or so. We pay about $2.50 each. We also buy gaylord boxes. There is a big demand for that, so if anyone can find gaylord boxes cheap, you should pick them up. Triple thick boxes tend to be about $8 each. We often have to ship them from NC to MD.

I think they are a little shorter than gaylords, but they should work the same.

If I had to break down I would guess that my business does 50% from apartment complexes, 25% Craigslist, 25% call backs.

The items we scrap that we get for free are (unless LARGE QTY., then we pay or offer lunch/beer to the maintenance men)
    Stoves
Washers/Dryers (we can sell or Whirlpool & Kenmore models more than scrap to a local dealer)
    Refrig/Freezers
    Exercise Equip.
    Sm Household Appliances
    Hot Water Heaters
    Iron Tubs/Sinks
AC Units (in my county you have to have permit to scrap ACs, which I have, along with a scrap permit and business license)
    etc

    We buy:
    LG QTY Metals
Barrels of Metals from Auto Shops
    Junk Cars/Farm Equip/Pontoon Boats/RVS/Buses

Commercial clean outs (getting all the metal shelving, sometimes appliances, other metals free for removing)

We provide trash haul off services
    Real Estate/Eviction clean outs
and we do school fundraisers for recycling (easy $$$$)

I hope that gives you some ideas.

The $$ is out there. We started in January and are solely supporting ourselves off of scrap income.

I am working on a list of things I could be doing while it's raining., sucky day!

(I just posted this in the day in the life of scrapper thread. hehe)
    When raining:
Places I can call and offer free pick up services for removal of scrap...

    Plumbers---hot water heaters
    Fencing companies
Auto shops-offer $$ for 1/2 barrel/full barrel of metal parts they can save (I have several shops already-want more)
Real Estate Agencies/Apt/Leasing brokers to get trash haul offs from evictions etc.
    Apt complexes
Research Commercial places that are remodeling...we have done a Lowe's, couple of Blockbusters and a gas station...got all the metal shelving free for removal.

Work on break down of anything set aside to take to scrap yard.
