The past 2 months I've been going to these thrift (2nd hand) stores. I like to look for brass. Older lamps are the best... I found a lot of heavy solid brass lamps weighing around 8 to 12 pounds each for 2.00- $4.00 a piece. I only buy them if they are cheap so you gotta watch they are sometimes sold for more then what you would make scrapping them. Also look for weights under them. some have heavy pieces of steel on the bottom.

When you go the thrift stores ask them what they do with the stuff that they can't sell, maybe they'll let you haul it off. I have several thrift stores that give me all the stuff they can't sell. Got 7# brass from one last week.

Also silver plated serving platters are most of the time silver platted brass.

Also, look for really old radios ( transformers inside ) and really old computers \ laptops \ large adding machines also have nice transformers,#2 insulated copper, and grade C PCBs. I do not know how interested you are in books. However, sometimes you can find first editions. Also, if you can find a clothing recycler you might be able to work out a price based upon weight or by the truck\car load.

I work at a thrift store and, which STARTED my scrapping hobby. The place I work does very well, over 3 million last year, their prices are very high because they can afford to price it high, it's jut like a tj max but used.
