starting a venture in coshocton Ohio?

I'd like to make a quick introduction and some background info; my name is Mike, I'm 22 and am generally interested in the idea of recycling and I'm interested in it environmentally and economically.

I would be interested in starting a small business or something similar with scrap metal as the commodity. I have limited start up funds but almost unlimited storage space, tho I live in a remote area of coshocton Ohio.

I'd be willing to travel a good deal to get ahold of scrap metal and to sell it.

My question is, would I have to have a lot of start up capital or connections to start some sort of venture with scrap metal, or can it be done by a 22 year old with limited funds and no personal connections in the industry and as of yet no experience in the industry, provided I'm willing to work hard at it and be dedicated?

can anyone give me advice on where to start, since I live in coshocton Ohio?

    Thanks in advance

The first thing you should do is read as much of this forum as you can. Most of us started out just like you and have built a business from the ground up. Put the word out as to what your doing, be honest with people, and when you say you will pick something up go pick it up or at least call the person to tell them you can't make it. Never take anything without asking, if you don't have permission to take something then your stealing it. These are some of the things that give scrappers a bad name. I could go on but I don't have 3 days to type so hopefully someone else will come on and add to this. Good luck and looking forward to how things go for you.

Mention your business to everyone you talk to. Tell your family, friends, people you bump into randomly. EVERYONE. make business cards. Even if its just a slip of paper printed off with all your info. Word of mouth works wonders. It doesnt take long to make connections. Visit local businesses. Present the business cards, I can tell you from working at our family business, we love people who come in and act respectful and professional. And Who knows who the owners of those businesses know. They could tell a friend whos a plumber that wants to get rid of a bunch of copper pipe scraps, and that guy could be great friends with a contractor. You never know.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...
