I'm somewhat of a booji scrapper, I'm 6' 2'. If I cannot reach any items from standing firm on the ground, then its not worth my time and safety.
Something just does not seem right about that story to me. The woman never even heard the truck as it drove up? Never felt as the trucks forks were sliding into the dumpster? Then at the very last second before the driver pushes the button the sister just mysteriously shows up on the scene? Then even tho the woman was picked up and dumped into the garbage truck while in a dumpster with metal in it she was not injured? Not even a scratch? Maybe this story is some kinda propaganda aimed at stopping dumpster diving or scrapping in Wichita, Kansas?
AMERICAN BORN, AMERICAN BRED! AND I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!!
This happened to my uncle who drives for a national waste management company, the guy jumped out of the container and broke his leg while he was dumping it. Then the guy tried to sue the waste company. Usually happens more to homeless people sleeping in them than to scrappers.
I wonder if she was sleeping on the job!!!
This is why in some areas it is illegal to dumpster dive.I myself would never get in a dumpster to get scrap. When I did do dumpster diving I had a long poll with a hook on the end to retreive any scrap that I found.
I also use a pole and hook. Dumpsters contain too many dangers for me. Needles are a big one these days, not to mention nails in boards, broken glass or sharp edges on metals. If I cant hook it then it don't need to come out.
[In AZ, it is illegal to be "in" any dumpster and to remove rubbish from containers. The law states nothing about removing recyleables or poling from the sides. I beat my ticket with their own laws.]
