I guess I'm too chicken to go alone. My Cummins is too loud. I'm always scared someone is gonns sneak up behind me. Was looking for someone who might be up to it every once and a while.

I have a nice quiet jimmy, but I wouldn't be caught dead in that city after sundown...errr you might Now, if you have a few prospective ones in mind, and interested in a daylight run, I might be up for it. I'm about $20 in fuel south.

Thanks Grouchy. I will definitely keep you in mind.I find that when biz owners see you in the day they get real stingy. Call the cops and all that jive.
I'm not sure what the 'laws" are in that part of the world either. I sure as hell don't need any ...altercations.. with leo. Bu I have a couple of trailers too, if you run into a situation.
Thanks. As far as the laws go. I know cops have just drove past me while d.d.ing. Behind shopping areas and all. I just dont wanna raise any red flags during the day.
...I scrapped in the Springs for many, many years with plenty of interactions with Police. All I ever got was a safety check, paperwork etc., however my old partner did 30 days in jail for "theft" diving a dumpster on private property (even though the owner did not want to press charges). If the container is on private property you must contact the owner and establish an agreement. If the container is on public ground just don't leave a mess. Lots of scrappers in the Springs these days, westside is good on Friday's, try Manitou as well and up the pass (Cascade, green mountain Falls). A partner is a very good idea for many reasons, try around the day labor places for an experienced helper..great place to find out about demo jobsites etc. I highly recommend selling to Colorado Industrial Recycling...don't worry about $5 at another yard, they value loyalty and will quickly upgrade you to preferred pricing. Be safe and Scrap on!!
I get all of the state wide theft alerts and Colorado Springs seems to be a hot spot. I would make sure not to throw up any red flags that the law is not going to like.

having written permission from propery owners with a contact number is quite helpful if LEO is unsure weather you belong there or not. It makes thier job easier, and they usually return the favor.
always call them sir or ma'am
always tell them what you are reaching for and move slowly "my id is in my back right pocket, i'm getting it out for you"
Wow! 30 days in jail?! Was it in a fenced construction site or something? I went last night it was kind of a bust. I mainly look for metal in roll off trash dumpsters. I found brand new infant onezies, new microphone, about 4 usb cables, brand new "eastside" backpack, water mane T-wrench and some of those throw and pop fire crackers. Just a little metal. I would of gotten more metal but the best dumpster was by a hotel. Ppl came out to let their dogs crap and they started barkin. The two guys were watchin me like I was doin a diamond heist.
I really appreciate the info and advice. I like that quote KZ. Hopefully I can figure out ebay and get rid of some of this stuff I've accumulated.
Aww Snnnap!!! 688 thats a great idea.
First of all you said you don't dd in the day as to not raise a red flag but to me dd at night would be the red flag. Arn't all dumpsters on privet property? The property that all dumsters sit on is owned by somebody.
......there's a shootin or a stabbin' or both... almost every night up there. Fred's a brave man rummaging around in unlighted/poorly lighted areas.
Alley or street dumpsters are public property, any others are on private property. CL is kinder than Evil-bay in my experience. Try an appliance removal ad in the Independent..my old partner did that and it hit big. Also try setting up roadside on the way the the landfill in Fountain with a sign offering a few $$ for any metal items on the way to the dump...strong motivation for non-recyclers to stop and get a few bucks to ease the pain of the dump fee!!! This is completely legal in Colorado..you can buy anything in a public space,,just don't sell stuff. Scrap on!!
Fred, I am down. You can text me at 719 201 5409. I scrapped when I lived in NC years ago but I am ready to do it again. I live out off exit 140.
When peeps start staring at me, I will start waiving at them. Most often they waive back and walk away. Some will flip me off and some yet will come over and ask what I am doing. I alway straight up with anyone.
And you are worried about your noisy truck? I have a 73 Dodge van, bothe exhaust pipes broke at the header. Talk about building thunder. If I snuck up on you, you need to get your hearing checked.
