Bulk trash days around here in suburbia are always a bonus.
Apartments typically have more tenants moving in and out at the end/beginning of the month. This leads to "dumpster diving" but can be worth it.

Tons of apartment complexes around here. I'll have to check that out! Thanks!
I have got alot of good things from Apartment complexes. I have also drove thru trailor parks and done really well. Got a 40" big screen (broken screen) from the dumpster a couple of weeks ago, and a small AC windows unit. So I will making trips thru the trailor park whenever I drive by.

I think this one can be huge-
College move out dates.
In some places, the kids leave behind so much stuff, that they have to hold garage sale type events to give it away.
Kids can't or won't take bulky or heavy items, computers, TV, stereos etc.. and most of it in working condition.
yeah, apt. complex's in middle class areas are good for finding all kinds of household appliances with wires, aluminum from mops/broom handles
'staples' dumpster is a good one...sometimes throw out items with wires, oldstock/display steel office chairs, desks, file cabinets are there pretty often......
also like to check around behind bigger chain stores for throwing away broken metal shelves

If you have the time and the ability to meet with a Super of an apartment complex and let him know what you are trying to do, you can make GOOD inroads, as Apartment complexes are a revolving door for scrap metal. The washers, dryers, & refridgerators are always going. Renovated apartments mean junk scrap and electrical. Take an extra cup of coffee with you and then include a six pack of the Supers choice into the conversation.
I have been going around everywhere. The problem I am having is I live in a small town with a scrap yard. You can get to it in 5 mins anywherein town. Peoples response is why give it to you when i can just take it and make $5.

I work in a small town like that, but thankfully there's a much larger city only 15 miles away.
The next closest town is 40 miles away.

Backwoods dump sites. I've found quite a few within a few miles of my house. Just make sure it's not private property.
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer
I've got an illegal dump ground just around the corner from my house. I kinda consider it something between my personal savings account and a magical cookie jar that is never empty. The first time I harvested there I scored six microwaves, a water heater, two car batteries, and a bunch of beer cans.

Nice! Better hurry and clean it out though. They never last long. You may have read my thread about the dump site I found. I was up there a few weeks ago and the larger of the two piles was gone. If you don't get it, someone else will.
I pretty much drive by it everyday. Sometimes a week or two goes by with nothing new, and then suddenly the cookie jar is full again.

Oh, I thought you meant it had so much stuff in it that there was no way you could haul everything out at once.
