E-Scrappers Talk to your Local Scrap Yard

Have some advice for those that are going whole hog into the e-scrap business.....

Wife and I were out at our local scrap yard the other day and noticed that there was a huge television and computer monitor dumped outside their fence. So I asked the lady in the office if we could haul it off for them. She said please do so....

What is happening is that people are bringing in whole electronics, finding out that they cannot scrap them there and getting mad and then just dumping them outside the fence. So we made sure that we posted a notice right there in the office about our services and also gave the ladies in the office plenty of business cards to hand out. They are now giving them to everybody who tries to bring in electronics and we are getting a lot of business from this.

It has worked out well and many scrap yards are dealing with the same thing. They do not want the whole electronic item and they need someone to take care of them.

It is secret code. We will fill you in once you hit 100 posts. the secret hand shake is after 200 posts. At 300 posts you get a set of keys to the executive chat room. We have new carpet in there. I am not sure yet what happens at 400 posts.

The gut to the left is holding it and asking forgiveness for hijacking yet another thread. Sorry, I like to have fun and do not mean to get in the way of real infornation on this board. It is home to me and if I feel like putting my feet on the coffee table I do. I hope you feel the same.

And thanks for the great advice from the OP on this subject. Worth looking into for sure.

we're still pulling stuff off of circuit boards from 33 TV's and monitors. Haven't got a good breakdown rhythm going yet, still taking too long.

How long does it take you to break down 1 TV? I've got it down to about 20 minutes total. Maybe i'm not doing as much as you, though.

I've found that each one is different and unless ya'll are using "the Big Hammer", the time would very. But more than 20 minutes wouldn't be worth it. But I bet by the time you read this post you've got it down to 10 !!

I can do up to 33'' TV's in under 5 minutes, stripped clean except for the shell, tube and the metal brace around the tube.. Just takes a few hits with the drill and wire cutters.

Glass is the problem. Every since the towns stopped recycling it for free, now they charge you $100. a ton. Now none of the scrap yards want it, there no free outlet for them.
