Anybody go to the dump? - Page 2

I've had luck finding old closed dumps from the 50s and 60s in remote areas. Many of these have cars buried in them and not only can you score a whole truckload of scrap, you can get vintage stuff to sell on ebay.

and if you don't get permission you can also get a rear end full of buckshot !

back on topic.... I went to the dump in plymouth and paid them 35 cents a pound for their aluminum pile.....Made some good profit off the extruded

On several occasions, as I am leaving the dump, I see someone coming in with a dryer, washer, what have you. If they came out of Nampa, they likely had to pass at least one scrap yard, if not 2-3 yards.

Drop it off in town, make a few bucks, or drive allll the way out to Pickle Butte, spend gas money AND pay for the "privilege" to dump metal. Granted they have actual trash as well, but you get what I am saying.

People are odd.

They might just not be aware like I wasn't until I started scrapping. I had never ever given a thought to the stuff I threw out or saw others throw out. I never knew there were places to take scrap for cash until we cleaned up my grammas house and my dad told me. Just lived my life and never gave it a thought so its possible they just dont' know. Or, they think there is a negative connotation attached to scrapping. When I think of how much stuff I threw out over the years............*sigh*

I also thought about dumps but figure they are probably fenced and probably a law about not taking stuff out.

Although we can't take any scrap from our dump I get another valuable benefit. I bring them donuts and pastry a few times a month. This does not get me scrap but they turn their backs to me when I dump my waste generated from scrapping. Saves me dumpster fees. I did have a guy ask me the other day if I wanted the 5 complete computer towers for 2 bucks though.

The dump near me in Middlesex they let me get stuff out of the dumper. I used to get like anything metal ranging from metal poles to aluminum siding. Now i only get stuff like vacuums, microwaves, or pc towers. The guys that work at the dump there always glad to see that stuff gone. Cuz there probably bout 10 pallets that you can put tvs computer monitors and any other e scrap vacuums microwaves so they let me get that stuff. I usta scrap tvs until the law came out about the no crts in the landfill. But im really havin fun scrapin microwaves and computers.

anyone thought about loitering around the dump entrance and flagging people down for their metal. maybe near a stop sign or something? The two dumps ive been two have loooonnnnngggggg haul roads way before the entrance...

OH I'VE THOUGHT about it. Kinda comforting to know other people are making a go of it. The dump around here has hours that really SUCK for your average M-F, 9-5 household. They are also open Saturday morning and that's when everyone hauls stuff from cleaning out the garage, basement, etc. I've also thought that being open for business at the dump's front door AFTER they close would be productive too. I'd have several big dumpsters and bins. One for garbage, one for ferous, and one for other metals.

A local scrap yard has a big roll off by the dump's office. That rolloff gets filled at least once a week.

The local dump has contract for businesses to take their metal scrap, their appliances, and their tires and probably some other stuff. One thing I am working on right now is permission to go through the tire pile and take tires with rims. I'll go home, seperate the tires from the rims, and return the tires.

I know im probably breaking some rules here but i really need an answer! I asked this question as a thread and cant find it. What is the scrap value of a 97 for econoline van cat converter?
