    Investing in gold/silver

    Hello everyone.

I’ve been talking with my partner about putting some of our savings into gold and silver – or other materials that will likely hold their value no matter what the stock market does and no matter what happens to US currency. Ideally we’d have some small pieces/coins easily accessible in case SHTF. Anyone do this or have suggestions for how to get started? Good resources to check out? Reputable sellers, etc.? I’m starting with very little knowledge.

It's not a bad idea to keep a few thousand rounds of the most common calibers on hand for barter & trade. .22 for small game. 12 ga. for just about everything. Maybe 30-30 or 30-06 for deer & larger game.

The best investment is good social skills and knowing how to handle potentially difficult situations. You never want to find yourself in a situation where you have to defend your life with a firearm. A gun is just a machine and they don't always work right. If you are going to get a feed jamb or a misfire ... it will always happen at the worst possible moment. Better not to allow yourself to ever find yourself in that situation in the first place.

Gettin' much too old for all that Rambo $hit.

It's timing Sara. The time to buy PM's was back before the pandemic when prices were relatively stable. They would have been purchased as a long term investment with the added benefit of insurance against economic troubles.

By the time you wake up and realize something is going on ... the ship has already sailed. Don't waste your money. What little you could do now wouldn't make much of a difference in a SHTF scenario.

The gold and silver craze is a orchestrated affair in my opinion.

Just a more expensive version of hiding under a desk to escape the BOMB.

There is ALOT of fake silver for sale today as well as some gold.

I wouldn't call it a craze or a fad CD. People routinely buy and sell PM's every day. They are commodities. This has been going on for centuries. This isn't anything new.

The PM's are also what you would call a hard currency. Coins made from them have been used as money since before the time of Christ. Gee ... think of all the trials and tribulations mankind has faced over the last few thousand years. Throughout it all ... gold and silver have always held their value.

Gold is also portable wealth. Imagine that you lived in Ukraine when the war broke out. You might have owned a house and a piece of land when the conflict started but now you are completely destitute. Life savings entirely wiped out. That would not have been the case if you had gold, silver, and diamonds in a pouch when you were forced to flee your homeland. You could move to a tropical island in the Caribbean and live out the remainder of your days in peace.

Money talks ... you have friends all over the world you've never met when you are the bearer of gold.

What I'm saying is that gold and silver buying and selling is being PUSHED on the market.

Many are making MONEY selling fakes that are very hard to tell it's fake as there are some good fakes.

I buy coins from a owner of a pawn shop that deals in coins and precious metals. The last time I was in he showed me some of the fakes he has come across. Some had a very strong attraction to a magnet and others weighed up very close to what they should weigh but they were plated if there was any silver in them.

There are ways to test but the best ways involve expensive gadgets.

You can weigh and measure and do sound tests easy enough, but even then it can be tough to spot some of the fakes.

Plenty of fake coins, rounds and such on eBay and other such venues.

I see fake indian head pennies that are easy to spot but people are buying them that "don't have a clue".

There are plenty of YouTube videos on fake halves and silver dollars as well as other fakes. Some are pretty good fakes that I would have trouble spotting.

The gold and silver market is being PUSHED these days is what I'm saying.

So your main concern seems to be fraud.

Not quite sure what to say. I've bought and sold over the last 50 years and have never known it to be a problem when doing business transactions with reputable people and reputable businesses.

    Pawn shops and fleabay ?

If you play in the swamp ... you will inevitably get covered in mud.

The owner of the pawnshop is a coin and precious metals dealer. Most of his biz is coins and precious metals. He has been in business over 50 years. I have been doing business with him about 30 years or so.

As for eBay, I buy very little silver through the site. What I have bought so far seems real enough. Just a odd coin here and there. I mostly buy pennies and nickels as well as foreign coins. I also buy some of the mint sets and the like.

There are MANY that will sell whatever they get stuck with trying to get their money back and those that don't take their heads out of the sand long enough to get a clue.

This world runs VERY differently then MOST believe and have a understanding for.

    VERY DIFFERENTLY.

A guy like me wouldn't be found with the masses that were building idols and having a good time while Moses was on the mountain getting the LAW.

I personally don't believe most of the so called scriptures to be factual and truthful, but there is a lot of great wisdom that can be gleaned.

The Christian religion is about 2000 years old and the Jewish religion about 4000 years.

The oldest religions are pagan simply put.

The pagan religions still thrive and are like the wizard of OZ where the reality is hidden behind the curtain.

I've watched most zombie movies that have been made and I never saw a zombie trying to swim.

Never thought about it but it makes sense.
