A good place to get scrap is....

In TX we get many hail storms and in DFW we had a good hail storm 2-3 months ago and MANY people are getting new roof's and gutters

IF YOU GO TO A HOUSE WITH A ROOFING SIGN IN THE YARD AND EITHER TALK TO THE OWNER AND ASK THEM IF THEY ARE GETTING NEW GUTTERS..
If so ask if you can remove there old ones IT WILL SAVE THEM 200 Dollars when the gutter guys give the estimate since they will save the labor to remove and the removal fee....

it will take you around 1hour maybe 2 if you are slow to get them down.

Also call the roofer and ask him to save all the metal from the roof off this job and all others he does.. they do not save that stuff!

(Metal Spinning Fans, Lead pipe covers, and other)

the lead alone off a house with 2 bathrooms will be 15-18 pounds

Don't know about others, but I wouldn't let just anyone climb around on my roof/hang off ladders tearing gutters down.

1. Liability issue.

2. Fairly good chance they wouldn't know what they were doing and may end up costing me more than I'd save in removal fees.

Ahh what a shame. I missed it.


Regardless if it's easy to remove, I still wouldn't want the liability if someone falls. We know how people love to sue. Average scrapper doesn't carry insurance.

If you ask the roofer he will more likely give them to you and his company will remove them from the roof for you all you need to do is just cary it away.

It is much easier for them to remove the gutters so they can put the roofs metal trim,
So 80 Precent of the time you do not even need to remove the gutters

Yeow. Setting aside the IQ comment, lets look at it from the homeowners point of view. If I had a contract with a roofer to put new gutters up I have to trust that they are bonded and licensed and insured to removed and replace my gutters. I have to trust they have trust worthy people removing the old gutters. Why in the heck would I let some stranger off the street remove my old gutters? Its MY homeowners insurance that gets billed if this stranger hurts themselves and then MY rates go up because of this. Whereas if the licensed/bonded/insured roofer's worker gets hurt its HIS insurance that covers injuries. At the very least, I myself will remove the old gutters and scrap them out. that way if I get hurt its my own **** fault.

Well yeah, I know that I was just trying to point out the dangers of letting some street guy in my yard to remove gutters without having all of those goodies on hand. I would never just 'trust' I guess I should have made that clearer and I didn't, my bad (Makes that IQ thingy have a bit of merit eh? . but the moral is still the same.

I don't know what they do in your area, but here virtually all roofing/gutter companies scrap their own stuff.
