    Scrap lead

Ok first of all this is my first post I am from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas which includes Brownsville. I am not really a scrapper but I recycle lead I reload my own ammunition I am already casting for metallic cartridges and I'm going to start casting for shotgun soon, but I need alot of lead.

I've had both good and bad experiences with junk yards the one near me is the bad one but the ones I've been to on my travels up north have been good. I like building stuff myself instead of buying it I am 16 and when I move out I plan on working with all types of metal smelting down scrap and making parts.
After highschool I plan on being trained as welder, diver, electrician, machinist, and gunsmith. Then im goin in the navy as diver or pilot. I am going to work as much as I can before I start a family then open open a gunshop since I'd have to stay in one place and work there for rest of my life.

That's pretty much my whole life and what my plans are for the future.
I joined this forum cause it was posted on my casting site and I was eager to gather what knowledge I can from here.

The first thing I would like to know is how much are y'all sellin lead scrap for what it is, and what do y'all sell refined lead for?
I'm lookin for lead of all types wheel weights, pipe, roof flashing, and I'm also looking for tin anywhere in texas.

Wow, to be 16 again. I am envious of you. I can not caution you enough to learn the safe way to go about your interests in smelting metals. There is lots of information available on this forum and I encourage you to read alot. Since I am not in Tx. I will not be able to help you with the lead.

Its good to see you have lots of goals, don't give up or get side tracked. Best to you, Mike.

I know safety rules need to be followed I'm also in to chemistry right now; chemical reactions, rockets another hobby right now I'm trying to get enough lead to last for the rest of my life and now I'm only shooting one gun 1,000 rounds a week and I'm tryin to get more guns and that's just 9mm pistol.

I'm also lookin for a car I kinda need that as much as or more than guns. I'm not picky anything that passes inspection is fine but im tryin to get money for one but nothing seems cheap these days.

Its nice to see a 16 year old that has his plan in place. You will go far kid. Most kids your age are too busy with their hand down their pants and you have it all figured out. Welcome to the forum and best of luck to you with the navy.

I'm a home metal caster myself but work with aluminum. I have purchased high speed micro drills to make dripper nozzles of various sizes and have made a pattern used to cast the melting pan to make a shot maker similar to other commercially available machines on the market.

For those unfamiliar with a shot maker, these units melt the lead in a pan, the molten lead is feed through a nozzle having a specific hold size to make lead shot of the desired size used in reloading shotgun shells.

It is of no concern of mine if the user wants to alloy his lead with other metals.

Some pictures of some downrigger fishing weight molds I already cast from my home foundry.

    Welder+Diver = $$$$$$$.

Sit on your rse all day getting a suntan, get a call, get wet, weld, get dry, fly 2 base, 2 days full pay 'decompress' (bends) in a paid motel, free alcohol/woman/bodyguard, then fly home.
    $2000 a day.
    Cash.
