This has probably been posted before but alot of the stuff I find is on the side of ATV trails easy to get a car/truck down back in the bush out of site out mind narrow trail so a quick dump.all within the trail right of way.

i have an old railroad bed behind my house. it is getting more and more scrap taken out. a couple years ago someone cleaned up a few areas. they were nice enough to take out the tires along with all the metals. there are still more areas which i have my eye on, once i have some more time.

i also take the kids to a couple old foundations which are right next to the railroad bed and we do some metal detecting each spring before the weeds grow up. we haven't found anything valuable. basically cans and nails. i use the bigger nails to hang stuff from brick and stonework. the kids enjoy it.

but yeah wherever you go, if you keep your eyes open, scrap is everywhere.

That the thing with detecting you have to clean the junk to get the goods this is why I started hunting the water I still find my fair share of junk but it's less then what you'd find on land
