    Ever Asked Local Fire Depts?

As I was out hitting my local spots for scrap metal, I notice a local fire department practicing cutting off the roof of a junked car and wondered what they do with the trashed vehicles after training ends. Well, they let me haul it off and said I could come back after their next training session.

It's always amazed me how the opportunities seem to be endless when you keep your eyes open and just ask. I congratulate you on finding a niche!
I've been doing dumpsters inside storage facilities for years and it all started by asking.
No "wet garbage" is encountered in storage dumpsters....another added benefit.

A lot of the fire dept's will have a junkyard deliver the car/s and remove them after their done with them. We had a county wide demonstration and the fire dept. was showing off it's new jaws of life and the junkyard had spraypainted their company name on the sides of the car. Has anyone had any luck with scrapping burned out houses? Since we are discussing fire department options, what happens after the insurance company is done with the house? I'm a newbie, so go easy on me!

I scrapped a burnt house. The fire dept did a training burn on an abandoned house. I rolled up all the wire and pipe, and any aluminum I could find. Got a written note signed by the fire department saying I took it legally, and got around $180. Just make sure to get permission and a note from them, and the scrap yard shouldn't ask questions.

Usually the ins. company hires a demo company to come in and clean it up, and if they need certain things done then they hire the sub-contractors.
