How do i scrap a push lawns mower

How do i do it and what type of money am i looking at ?
How many would i have to do to get good money ??

Take the motor off, drain the oil out and sell the motor as irony aluminum and the rest goes in thr shred. Call the scrap yard and ask what they are paying for irony aluminum and shred to get a price of what you'll get.

Check the Deck! If it is an older mower and has a silver colored mowing deck there is a good chance it is cast aluminum. Usually a Honda 5hp mounted up top. The deck alone will weight right around 20lbs-$10 right there! I get a price for combustion motors that is better than electric motors or irony alum, not sure why someone probably buys them from the yard for parts or something.

I remove as much aluminum as I can and sell as clean aluminum. If there is anything leftover, I sell as dirty aluminum. I have yet to score an aluminum deck lawnmower.

i checked prices here today and both yards buy lawnmower engines as dirty aluminum, $0.10 a pound, almost the same as tin price, so I called the local small engine repair and he said he'd like to see them, can probly use the motors for parts

Cast Ali chassis lawnmowers have their own price here, its a higher value than any other sort of Ali. I don't know whats in it to do that.

Maybe magnesium alloy like some car rims?

I almost always (depending on tiredness) take the motors off if I can get them off and take those apart for the aluminum. If the deck is aluminum all the more better!!!! I did learn though, that I can get away with leaving *some* metal on my motor housings and still get clean cast aluminum price for it. all yards may not be the same so double check. I drill a hole in the bottom of the motors and drain that out as well as any gas before I either turn them in whole or take apart. yards don't like those waste fluids in the motors.

Wazball, some push mowers will also have the drive train on them which is also cast aluminum.

with any combustion type engines I break it all down, separate the different ferrous metals and sell. However, that is just me. I have a weird fascination with tearing items down to the fullest extent, but everyone is different. Generally speaking I get a lot more money that way. It really just depends on how much time you have and your local scrap yard. Make sure to call or otherwise contact the yard and ask. nine times out of ten the yard will be happy to answer your questions, as this brings them your business.

Why drill a hole when the drain plug could be unscrewed?

ScrapYaHerd, if I turn them in whole my yard wants them drilled from the lowest point. I've just gotten used to drilling them out. If I get 2 or 3 I set them all on their sides and drill away and set on buckets or pans to catch the oil.

The drainplug on most mowers is the lowest point. Some yards I really don't get a threaded hole is no different than a drill hole.

most push mowers you gotta tilt to drain the oil

I have a lawnmower with oil in it that needs draining. I've never done this before, but imagine I will tilt the pushmower over, and let the oil drain into a filter and then into a milk jug. I hope it doesn't make a huge mess. I think I might need to find some kind of plastic tarp to do this on, or onto some old clothes? I don't want to create environmental waste.

In contrast to my earlier post Jilly, I think most push mower engines will have the drain plug( I didn't really pay any attention to it though until after that conversation) If you can do it on a piece of cardboard or something and use old rags to wipe up the drips and just throw them in the trash you 'll probly do ok

Cardboard! Yes; I've seen my father do it that way, years ago. Thanks for jogging my brain. I've got some old rags ready to go, too. My husband doesn't know any of this stuff, so I need to borrow the brains of others.
