Does anyone know what category of insulated wire this would be considered? I have about 90 lbs of this wire and am considering selling it as is. I am also looking for a recommendation as to a yard in northern NJ to bring this. Thanks!

i would say its copper and you will get a better price if you strip it ...in my experience those are fairly easy to strip, the rubber coating on the internal wires are soft and comes off with little effort, just cut it into manageble strips say 10 foot lengths ,you can go longer but , you will get the twist effect and it will be a real pain in the butt.....but definately worth breaking down i would get almost .80 more /pound if it were stripped, good find

If that is four strands of solid wire I would strip it. Also depends on if you have the time to strip it. You have to know what your price would be comparing stripped to unstripped and you would only know that if you call the yard. Check out scrap monster on top of page to get an idea between the two prices.

Looks like stranded wire to me but I would def strip it. atleast double your money .

Looks like #10 size SO/ SOW cable. If you have 90# insulated you should have 50 to 60# stripped (estimated). This wire is easy to strip compared to others, but I have found holding the knife still and pulling the wire works better that moving the knife along the wire?

I agree with Whn1, I sit in a chair with hard plastic armrest hold the knife on the wire and pull the the wire under the knife. I would definitly strip it.

Got a price of .92 per lb today. Looks like Ill be stripping it, lol.

Late night stripping the wire in the pic above. After stripping the black insulatation off I began stripping the inner wires. Most of the wire is so brittle its not allowing me to strip past 3 or 4 inches without getting hung up in my stripper. I stripped as much of the "good" wire I could have. I reweighed the wire I could not strip easily and it weighed in at 66.5 lbs. This will be considered insultated thhn and will fetch $1.62 per lb. So, if I did the numbers right, I would have recieved around $82.80 for leaving the wire as is. I should get $105.30 for the wire as it is now. The difference being $22.00 more. It took me about 2 hours total plus I yielded a few pounds of #1 which should pay out 3.20 per lb. Worth it in my opinion.
