there has to be a faster way? (HELP)

okay so i have about 4000 feet maybe more of insulated copper and aluminum wire, it is black plastic coated with a red line, and the inside has copper strips that wined AROUND and then more plastic and then aluminum (me and my father already deducted the aluminum is a lost cause to strip so we take back as is, to light of a metal to play with) but the original way i strip this copper is, i take pliers and take one piece of copper and pull it out so it cuts the coating, and when we finish a peice of about 50 feet we take the coating right off, and its pay day, but honestly there has to be a faster way:confused: any one have any ideas??? i thought it was time to consult the experts



p.s. call me a lazy scrapper, but work smart not hard is what i was always taught.

i was thinking about that, but only problem is, this stuff is big, and that looks like it would be to small, ya know?

what is the diameter of the wire?

jacksmuc has a video of stripping copper wire on youtube. Although if it is copper that is wrapped in an aluminum braid, i doubt the video will help much.

its called urd wire...right now its worth about .65 lb unstripped..the copper amounts depends on size of aluminum wire inside...smaller alum smaller copper

What you have is red stripe URD wire..ITS an underground cable.I buy alot of it.I also do recoveries on the material to determine copper/alum content.Honestly I cant imagine breaking any significant amount of this stuff down by hand.Ive stripped some with a stripper in the past but its not cost effective for me.The copper can be anywhere from 12% to 30% and the alum is generally 15% to 25% and it will vary by size a little.If it were mine I would cut off a foot of it and get a copper/alum recovery and then call your local yards with the information and get a price based on the recovery.You might be surprised
